Litecoin Core 0.16.2 has just been released, according to an official announcement on their blog website today, September 8, 2018.

Litecoin Core is currently the most popular full node implementation of Litecoin (LTC) digital currency. The Core, because of its open source feature, is open to volunteers and skilled personnel who are interested in developing Core. Interested volunteers can join Core by reaching out and proposing improvements to the codebase. The new release is based on this premise, with a team of about 19 volunteers.

The open source p2p digital currency and software project released the update in the early hours of today with an official public announcement informing users of the event after a long wait. The update was only released after sufficient and rigorous testing, where improvement has been made with no room for technical issues or bugs. The statement read:

“Litecoin Core 0.16.2 has finally been released to the public after months of vigorous development and testing. This is a minor incremental release that provides numerous bug fixes, performance improvements, and a few new features.”

Warnings and Necessary Information

The statement warned that previous wallets that were created in the version 0.16 and latter versions would not be compatible with versions before 0.16 and would not work if the newly created wallets are used in the past and older versions.

However, it is important to note that wallets that existed and were explicitly created with older versions would not be affected by this.

Also importantly, the statement admits the new release might still be subject to bugs and unexpected issues, despite the heavy testing. Users are advised to back up their wallet data file before upgrading for recovery later, just in case.

The new release can be downloaded or gotten from Litecoin.org, while the complete changelog, provided by the developing team can be found here.
